Spring Government and Non-Profit Fair
On Tuesday, March 3, I attended the 2026 Spring Government & Non-Profit Fair at Kennesaw State University.
“Have you ever considered opportunities in public service, government, or with a non-profit? We have an event that is just for you! Join the Department of Career Planning and Development for the Government and Non-Profit Day! Join us after the Fall Job and Internship Fair to check out jobs in fields you may have never considered. This event is for students of all majors and class levels to explore opportunities with non-profit organizations, government agencies from all levels (local, state, and federal), and employers in public service.”
I currently work for an arts non-profit, and it has given me a strong interest in working for one after I graduate. I am also open to working in Public Service or Government. When I was growing up, my mother was the Deputy Director of Parks and Recreation in Chamblee, and I could see myself being happy following a similar career path.
On the event page, they suggested that we prepare an elevator pitch for the potential future employers at the fair. This was mine: “Hello! My name is Mia Rackley. I am a senior English Major with a completed minor in Professional Editing, graduating in fall 2026. I’m currently working for Woodstock Arts, an arts non-profit in Woodstock, Georgia. I am the secretary and treasurer of Exit, Pursued by Bear, a playwriting club here at KSU. I am very interested in your company because [insert different reasons here]. Can I give you my resume?”
The dress code was business casual, and I wore this outfit. I also had an audition later that day in Atlanta, so this picture is from the elevator there. I was so overwhelmed by the number of people at this event and had so many questions for everyone that I forgot to take a picture there.
